Every Child Matters March on October 2, 2023


On October 2nd, the M’akola Housing Society will be hosting the annual Every Child Matters March and all community members are invited to join in.  Please come and join the DDBIA Board of Directors, friends and family as we march together.  Look for our banner!

Date: Monday, October 2 

Time: Gather at 9:00 AM

Location: We’ll meet at Si’em Lelum Gymnasium at 5574 River Rd, and the march kicks off at 9:30 AM.

As the march culminates, we invite you to join us in shared moments of nourishment and self-care. Hungry Bubba's and Artisan Gelato await to satisfy appetites, while Tsow-Tun Lelum offers on-site self-care support. Claudia Sylvester presents homemade authentic enchiladas for those seeking a taste of tradition, and Medix ensures First Aid readiness.


Reconciliation: Journey of our Generation workshops

Join Quw’utsun’ Elders who will take you on a journey through time with stories of pre-contact village life, the arrival of settlers, the development of colonies and policies of colonization. Sit inside western systems and Indigenous ways of being, to experience the impacts, effects and changes brought about by colonization. Explore the questions of where and how we go from here and join thousands of people who have participated and are committed to walking the road of Q'shintul - walking this journey together.

Event Details:

When: September 28th, 9 am - 3:30 pm

Where: Duncan - Comiaken Room at Quw'utsun' Cultural Centre

Registration: Register through EventBrite or email: qccsociety@gmail.com. Cost: $65 (includes lunch, snacks, coffee and tea). No one will be turned away due to insufficient funds.

Halloween is just around the corner, and we've got a spine-tingling treat for you! In the week leading up to the spookiest night of the year, the DDBIA is transforming Station Street Common into a hauntingly delightful Spooktacular event!

What to Expect: Station Street Common will be adorned with spine-chilling decorations that will transport you to a world of eerie enchantment.   Explore three carefully crafted photo ops, each more haunting than the last! Perfect for capturing your favorite spooky moments.

Share your spine-tingling photos on social media and tag the DDBIA (@downtownduncan on Facebook and @downtown.duncan on Instagram) for your chance to enter our Spooky Photo Contest! Lucky winners will be randomly selected and awarded with Downtown Duncan Dollars, which can be used at downtown businesses.

But wait, there's more! If you're a local member business eager to welcome trick-or-treaters this Halloween, don't forget to reach out to us. We'll provide you with a special window decal to let everyone know you're part of the Trick or Treating fun!  We’ll publish all the participating businesses in advance of Halloween so those little ghouls and goblins find their way to you (between 10:00 am and noon, Saturday, October 28th).  Register via email ddbia@downtownduncan.ca  now for Trick or Treating participation!

It’s Spooky Zombie Crawl TIME for the 19+s

We invite all ghouls of the 19+ crows to partake in the “Thirsty Zombie Halloween Crawl”.  Visit The Fort, Fresh Kenny’s, Craig Street Brew Pub and the Old Firehouse Wine and Cocktail Bar for spooky food and drink special, dancing and a costume context.  And there are BIG prizes too!
