Program Overview
The Downtown Duncan Vandalism Recovery Grant Program is a financial assistance initiative designed to support local businesses impacted by vandalism. This grant aims to offset out-of-pocket expenses incurred due to acts of vandalism, helping affected businesses recover quickly and maintain their presence in the Downtown Duncan Business Improvement Area (BIA).
Program Objectives
Provide timely financial relief to businesses affected by vandalism.
Encourage businesses to report incidents and pursue insurance claims.
Promote resiliency and economic stability within the Downtown Duncan BIA.
Support community safety and recovery by discouraging business displacement.
Grant Details
Grant Amount: Up to $1,000 per approved application, not to exceed the deductible amount incurred.
Matching Requirement: No matching funds required.
Reimbursable Costs: Insurance deductibles and directly related out-of-pocket expenses not covered by insurance (e.g., immediate temporary boarding or graffiti removal).
Program Cap & Prioritization: Grants will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis until annual funding is exhausted. In the event of high demand, priority may be given to:
First-time applicants
Incidents with documented community impact or severe damage
Application Process
Incident Occurs: Business experiences a vandalism incident.
Insurance Claim: Business files a claim with their insurance provider (if applicable).
Documentation Collection:
Police report or incident number.
Insurance documentation showing the deductible amount (if applicable).
Photos of the damage.
Receipts for emergency repairs or replacement costs.
Application Submission:
Complete online or paper application form.
Attach required documents.
Review Process:
Applications reviewed by Downtown Development Committee
Decision issued within 30 days of submission.
Disbursement:
Approved funds issued via cheque or direct deposit.
