New Business Round Up

Among all of the hustle and bustle downtown these days, there have been a few new businesses to open up as pandemic restrictions are loosening! We are happy to introduce Country Home & Kitchen, Cowitan Sunshine Emporium, and Foxy Box Laser & Wax Bar.

Country Home & Kitchen

When we entered the Country Home & Kitchen, first we were greeted by the lovely scent of a huge selection of candles in the store, and then by smiling staff members. The crew was busy organizing, unpacking new stock, and chatting with curious customers.

We found Brian Baldson - who owns the store - working away installing a stubborn shelf in one of the many display units. He took a break to chat with us, and tell us about his new business. The Country Home & Kitchen sells home decor items, serving ware, kitchen gadgets, clocks and so much more - a farmhouse homemaker's dreams. The wall-to-wall display of colourful crockery and glassware is eye-catching and sure to inspire you to host a dinner party; just so that you have a reason to buy one of every dish. Brian's store is well organized, and you will enjoy exploring thoughtfully themed sections as you move through each aisle. From mugs with quippy sayings to bohemian throw pillows, photo frames, and gnomes - there is a little something for everyone at the Country Home & Kitchen!

Cowitan Sunshine Emporium

Our excursion to meet new business owners next took us over to Cowitan Sunshine Emporium. Before we got in the door we remarked over how clean and fresh the exterior of the building was looking. The patio next door at Kahuna Burger was full and people all around seemed to be having a nice day over on Kenneth Street.

As we went inside we were warmly (pun intended) greeted by owner Chris St’cyr, whose sunny disposition made us feel right at home. We had so many compliments on the stylish overhaul of the space and learned that Chris and his partner did most of the work themselves. From repainting the quirky light fixtures to preserving the vintage bowling alley floors, the space is a seamless blend of sunny joyfulness and clean design. It’s warm, inviting and will have you instantly planning your next trip to the beach.

What do they do over at Cowitan? The main attraction is the tanning salon which features both standup and laydown style options - but there is so much more to see in this little corner shop. They have an awesome selection of bathing suits in a wide range of sizes, sunglasses, hats, and unique beach bags featuring Mexican art. You may stop in for a tan and then find yourself sticking around to enjoy the funky, fresh and beachy vibes. Cowitan is a ray of sunshine we all need.

Foxy Box Laser & Wax Bar

The next stop on our walkabout around town was Foxy Box Laser & Wax Bar. When you enter the building Foxy Box is located at the end of a long white hallway. Reddish orange pops of colour along the way draw your eye directly to some way-finding wall art that becomes legible, just as you are beginning to wonder if you are in the right place. It reads “This way Babe” with an arrow pointing to the right.

As you follow the arrow you turn a corner and suddenly you are in a space full of unapologetic feminine energy! As we got to know the ladies at the front desk we chatted with owner Tiffany Morton who shared her history as an aesthetician, what drew her to join the Foxy Box Brand, and some of the services that they offer. As there was currently no one in the salon Tiffany gave us a full tour and we got to explore the separate studio’s all of which feature a sassy, and inspiring quote in bright red on stark white walls.

The laser and wax bar is not your typical bubblegum pink salon, It is fun, kinda punchy, and full of goodies that are sure to inspire you to find your inner girl boss. Aside from aesthetic services like waxing, and lash lifts, they also have mugs, t-shirts candles, and much more. If you are looking for a new place to find a new you, check out Foxy Box on Station Street!

In the Downtown Duncan area, we are so lucky to have a diverse and interesting assortment of local businesses and it is always very exciting to see some new ones added over time. We want to give our warmest welcome to these three new additions and wish you all the best of luck as you set up, settle in, and become part of our awesome community. Thanks again to all of the new business owners who took time out of their days to chat with us and show us around your spaces. We look forward to talking again soon!
