A Spooktacular Spectacle

Updated: Oct 29, 2019

If you've got it... haunt it! Check out the Downtown Duncan BIA's photo album of the annual Spooktacular event from this past Saturday, October 26th 2019.

A picturesque, warm, and sunny Saturday greeted downtown Duncan as children of all ages arrived en masse in their spookiest ensembles to collect a bounty of sweets in exchange for their costumed display of imagination. They also participated in a costume contest!

Even some grown-ups got in on the action. Check out our Mayor, Michelle Staples, dressed as Maleficent and speaking with some of Duncan's youngest citizens!

This event is made possible every year through the efforts and generosity of our very own outstanding merchants and in collaboration with the Duncan Farmers Market.

Many of downtown Duncan's business owners dress up to give out candy, like Ian Smith of Victory Barber & Brand North, Ruth Spon of Station Street Tattoos, and Chris Manley of Resthouse Sleep Solutions. Check them out!

The best part of this event, though, is seeing Duncan and the Cowichan Valley's children exercising their creativity and enjoying their candies.

The BIA captured photos of the event to honor the costume skills of the little ones! Don't they look great?

The Downtown Duncan BIA would also like to extend congratulations to the victors in our guessing game contest! Lakey Stager won the jellybean count with an estimate of 463 beans, only 16 off from the actual total. Ethan Sharp got closest to guessing the correct weight of the pumpkin, which was 8.8 pounds, with his guess of 8.2 pounds!

This spooktacular autumn event is soon to be followed by horse and carriage rides, fireworks, hot chocolate and chestnuts at this year's Christmas Kickoff on November 29th.

Stay tuned for more family and community fun!
