Long time Duncan residents likely remember the time when the merchants of Downtown Duncan created a summer sale activity they called DUNCAN DAZE. For two days only the merchants put their wares out into the street at fabulous discount prices at the same time as the Duncan Cowichan Summer Festival Society was hosting a summer parade and street party.
When the two groups began to work together on an even bigger event with FREE street activities and ongoing entertainment, it was decided to operate under one banner. For many, many years the merchants of Downtown Duncan have nodded and smiled as customers referred to DUNCAN DAZE, so finally, in this exciting year of change, we have agreed to reinvent the wheel.
DUNCAN DAZE is back both in name and in spirit. In partnership with the Duncan Cowichan Summer Festival Society, the merchants of Downtown Duncan are throwing a two day street sale/party.
The two day event will feature fun and activities for all ages. Our members are busy cooking up a huge variety of entertainments designed to provide families with lots and lots to do for two whole days.
There will be free rides for kids from toddlers to teens as well as an ongoing Minute To Win It contest, an opportunity to play both Guitar Hero and Wii sports games, and a venue for budding artists to participate in Chalk Walk Art. Onging street entertainment will be provided by Deano the Clown and a number of community performers including the Ukeladies, Bopoma Music.
There will be a host of different demonstrations including fly tying, martial arts, belly dancing and the Pacific Northwest Raptors. Be sure to pick up an information program from your favorite Downtown business.
The children's parade on Friday is always a big hit and following that event most families stay downtown for the whole evening. This year in addition to a wide range of musical events, The Duncan Cowichan Summer Festival Society is continuing the tradition of organizing a 'not to be missed' Saturday morning Grand Parade.
Following the parade the merchants of Downtown Duncan invite you to spend the rest of your day enjoying DUNCAN DAZE.
